  13. INTRODUCTION
  14. This HyperCard stack is designed to simulate the interface of the
  15. Enterprise's computer screens while displaying information on all the
  16. episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. It allows you to scan the
  17. episodes and read the detailed plot descriptions (courtesy of Timothy
  18. Lynch), check out the writers, directors, and guests, and store the
  19. information on your video tape collection (if you have one).

  22. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  23. This stack can operate on any Apple Macintosh computer with at least
  24. 2.5 megs of RAM.

  27. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
  28. This stack requires HyperCard 2.1 or higher and System 6.0.5 or higher
  29. to operate correctly.

  32. SPECIAL FEATURES
  33. The stack will always remember which show you were looking at last and
  34. open the stack to that show.

  36. You can "mark" shows using the Mark Shows window. Once a group of shows
  37. are marked, you can print out various reports for these shows. For
  38. example, you could mark all the shows which feature Worf to find out if
  39. the same set of authors have been writing for him. You can view only the
  40. marked shows by using the "Marked" arrows on the screen. You can also go
  41. directly to any marked show by clicking on the title in the list. The á
  42. character after the episode names indicates whether or not you have that
  43. show on video tape.

  45. You can generate reports in three styles (Full, Short, and One Line)
  46. for all the shows, the marked shows, or just the one you are looking at.
  47. These reports can be sent to your printer or saved in a text file (flat
  48. ASCII). The creator of the files can set as well; you can select from
  49. MacWrite, MacWrite II, TeachText, Word, or WriteNow. This is the default
  50. word-processor which will open if you double-click on the file's icon.

  52. You can store information on your video tape collections of Star Trek
  53. episodes. You can then use the stack to find which tape a specific
  54. episode is on, so you need not physically search the tapes to find it.
  55. This information can be exported to a file, then imported into newer
  56. versions of this stack.

  58. You can now add shows to the stack. Use the "New Card" menu item, or
  59. type Apple-N. The new cards will always be placed at the end of the
  60. stack. When you enter the name of the episode, that name will be updated
  61. in the title lists so you can view it with the "Go To" button. Make sure
  62. you spell the title of the show correctly, otherwise updating to version
  63. 1.2 of the stack may have some problems.

  65. The Help Mode causes small windows to pop up next to objects when you
  66. place the cursor on them. If you are running System 7.0 or higher,
  67. turning on Help Mode will activate Balloon Help.

  70. UPDATING FROM VERSION 1.0
  71. If you have entered information on your video collection into version
  72. 1.0 of the stack, you will want to transfer that information into
  73. version 1.1. Use the following steps to accomplish this:
  74.   1) Start version 1.0 of the stack.
  75.   2) Select "Export Video Info╔" from the menu.
  76.      This creates a file containing your video information.
  77.   3) Open version 1.1 of the stack.
  78.   4) Select "Import Video Info╔" from the menu.
  79.   5) Open the file you created in step 2.
  80.      This will start the importing process. When it is done,
  81.      all of the video information from the original stack will
  82.      be a part of the new stack.
  83.   6) Make sure all of your video tape information transfered
  84.      correctly before you delete version 1.0 of the stack.

  87. HOW TO GET UPDATES TO THIS STACK
  88. Updated version of this stack will be available by anonymous FTP from
  89. mac.archive.umich.edu (141.211.164.153) and sumex-aim.stanford.edu
  90. (36.44.0.6) as they are produced. Any new stacks will be announced in
  91. the following Usenet newsgroups: comp.sys.mac.hypercard,
  92. rec.arts.startrek.current, and rec.arts.startrek.info.
